Hull Buddhist Group
(founded 1995, reformed 2016)
"Hull Buddhist Group" - is an informal group of local Buddhists that come together occasionally to meditate and support each other's practice.
The
Hull Buddhist Group is happy to hold meetings at Bean Street without a
warden being present all the time We understand that in such circumstances
-
·
we
will the only Group/Club using the building.
·
A
warden will be there to give us access to the building before our meeting
commences
·
And
will hand us the “on call” contact details of a warden in case there is an
emergency
·
We
will keep the front door locked and only admit people wishing to attend our
meeting or keyholders
·
We
will aim to leave promptly at the end of our room booking
·
We
will check that all the lights off, windows are closed and any room we use
is tidy before we leave
·
We
will lock the front door when we leave
·
We
understand that the office and other rooms you do not wish us to enter will
be locked.
·
We
hope that be informed in advance before our meeting to inform us that a
warden will not be present during our meeting.
·
We
will not burn candles or use incense when a warden is not present
We
wish to point out that we are an informal Group, with no formal
constitution, officers, membership list or public liability insurance. We do
however have a set of Guidelines for members which I can send you if you
wish. Our meetings advertised on our website &c. and are open to new
potential members. We have (at present) three volunteer convenors who act as
organisers and points of contact – these are Richard Davies, Heidi Marwan
and Mike Horne.
Emergency and Leaving Procedures for those occasions –
In
event of emergencies contact the “on call” warden immediately.
In
event of fire – set off the alarm using one of the “smash boxes” beside the
exit doors. Telephone 999 and request attendance of the Fire Brigade. Use
main front door to exit, or another “Fire Exit if that is blocked; assemble
at the Mavis Rawlings Centre at the bottom of the street (not Anlaby Road
end); check to see if anyone is missing; do not go home until we are sure
that everyone is clear of the Meeting House. There is a fire blanket and
small fire extinguisher in the kitchen; but don’t be a hero.
During our meeting our “door-keeper” keep the front door locked and only
admit people attending our meeting or key-holders (who can get in using
their key anyway).
In
event of any spillages there are mops and cleaning equipment in the
“Cleaning Cupboard” located between the toilets.
If
needed there is a water cut off valve about the urinals in the Gents toilet.
When
we leave –
·
Tidy
up
·
Put
chairs and tables back where we found them
·
Put
any mugs, cups, plates, cutlery we have used into the dishwasher, but do not
switch it on
·
There are bins in the kitchen for general waste, dry recycling and
compostable materials.
·
Check that members have not left any personal belongings behind.
·
Close the windows and turn off the lights in the rooms we have been using.
·
Switch off the water heater beneath the kitchen sink.
·
Reset any central heating thermostats we have turned up. If no other group
is going to be using the building after us set them to 10 degrees Celsius.
·
Check no one is in the toilets and that the lights are off.
·
Leave the building checking that it is securely locked.
