Interesting theories about the causes and nature of dyslexia; highlights some of the positives. Includes the "Davis Procedures" for teachers and parents. Whether these would help children I do not know, but I thought that the first part of the book was very thought provoking.]

Goodwin V & B Thompson 2004. Making dyslexia work for you. A self-help guide. 166 pp and CD-ROM. David Fulton Publishers, London. [ Dyslexia friendly print - balck sans serif font on cream paper. If was to write a book about dyslexia for adults with dyslexia, this would probably be it! ]

Ryden M 1996 (3rd edn) Dyslexia How would I cope? Jessica Kingsley Publishes, London. 64pp. isbn 185302385X [ Dyslexia friendly large sans-serif print. A insightful little booklet I think - there is a fascinating section which tries to show the non-dyslexic how some dyslexics experience when reading the printed word by illustration the problems of concept reversal, vertical distortion, lateral distortion, inversion, horizontal inversion, words fading, mirror images, missing letters, missing words and missing key words. Welcome to our world! ]

Buzan T 2003 (2nd edn) Use your head. BBC Worldwide Limited, London. 160pp [ This guy trademarked "mind maps". Lots of ideas and exercises to aid your thinking. ]
Gelb M J 1995. Thinking for a change. Discovering the power to create, communicate and lead. Aurum Press Ltd, London. 228pp. [ "Synvergent thnking" and "mind maps" for the modern businessman. I have not read it yet but there looks to be some useful stuff in this book, though I am not so sure about the "leadership" aspects! ]
Moreley D 1995 (7th edn). The ACE spelling dictionary. 299 pp. [ In order to find the correct spelling of a word in an ordinary dictionary you have to know roughly how to spell it - in the ACE dictionary you find the words from their sounds. A spelling dictionary does not tell you the meanings of the words. ]

Creme P & M R Lea 2003 (2nd edn.) Writing at University - a guide for students. Open University Press, Maidenhead. 185pp. isbn 0335213251. [I like OUP books - they are very practical and to the point. This is no exception. Do they get students to "test drive" their publications before they are published? ]

Cottrell S 2001. Teaching study skills amd supporting learning. Palgrave, Basingstoke. 356pp. [One could say that this is the teachers' version of the study skills handbook ! Not as dyslexia friendly as the student version, but still very useful. There is an associated web-site with downloadable worksheets, I think. ]
Race P (Ed) 1999. 2000 tips for lecturers. Kogan Page Ltd, London. 264pp. [Quite expensive this book. Contains lots of pithy bullet point ideas arranged into topics - some are inspirational and some are stating the obvious. Easy to use and dip into.]
